PADI COURSE DIRECTOR Neil Richards
We are proud to have Neil Richards as Course Director for our PADI IDCs here on Koh Phangan.
When most travellers talk about catching a bug in India it’s not good news. Luckily for Neil, that bug was the diving bug. His first dive in India in 2000 got him thoroughly hooked and he hurriedly booked a dive trip to Egypt as soon as he got home. In the crystal clear waters of Egypt, Neil completed his Open Water Course, and like many a true dive-junky he went straight on to complete his Advanced Course during the same trip.
Arriving back in the UK, Neil decided that he needed more and went on to complete his PADI Rescue course. In 2003, Neil and his equally venturesome wife Monique decided to sell up and move to Thailand to pursue his new found dream of becoming a professional dive instructor. Since then there has been no looking back as his career took him to some of the world’s most stunning and bountiful dive sites in Australia, Mexico, Fiji and Egypt.
Despite enjoying the array of diving and travel that his new skills opened up for him, Neil felt a connection to the unique, colourful dive sites in The Gulf of Thailand and, in particular, the beautiful island of Koh Phangan . This is where he decided to settle 6 years ago and call his home. Neil says that teaching is his passion and ‘why not move your classroom underwater?
His contagious enthusiasm for diving is now focussed on developing new instructors. His professionalism, patient manner and great sense of humour make for a teaching style that balances solid learning with a massive helping of fun, after all, isn’t that what diving is all about!?
Neil's aim is to make sure that you successfully pass the PADI IE and receive that extra bit of information and knowledge to become a highly trained Open Water Scuba Instructor after the IE. You will be having fun working in a safe and reliable way in a tropical destination.
